With the expertise of our dedicated staff and a host of local professionals - many of whom volunteer their time - the COA is able to offer a wide variety of services to support our community's health, financial, and social needs.

Blood Pressure Clinic
Meet with the Town Nurse to have your blood pressure taken, ask health related questions, or discuss your health needs. Appointments available on Wednesday mornings.
Home Care Referrals
Our Social Services Coordinator Saranya Hayward is available to help Harwich residents age 60+ and their family and caregivers with a variety of services, including but not limited to: referrals to homecare agencies and assisted living communities, referrals to Elder Services and help navigating their service offerings, and consultation regarding aging at home.
Grocery Assistance
Apply for SNAP at the COA.
We can also pick up and deliver groceries from the Family Pantry at no cost. All Harwich seniors are eligible. The Family Pantry offers a full range of groceries, including perishables. Deliveries take place on Tuesday afternoons. Orders accepted Fridays 12-3:30PM & Mondays 9AM-2PM.
Pharmacy Assistance
COA staff can pick up prescriptions from local pharmacies and deliver to your home. Payment must be arranged before pick up.
Tech Support
Get your device questions answered by a tech-savvy volunteer. By appointment only.
Heating & Utility Assistance
Our Social Services Coordinator can help you apply for Fuel Assistance for help paying your heating bills, or connect you with a discounted rate from Eversource and National Grid (for those who qualify).
Housing Assistance
A caseworker from the Homeless Prevention Council is available to meet with you in our offices on Tuesday afternoons from 12:30 - 2:00 PM. They can assist with housing applications and other personalized case management support. This is a walk in service—no appointment required.
Caregiver Support
A variety of services are available to help support caregivers. Check out our newsletter for current support group offerings and a listing of local day programs, or contact our Social Services Coordinator Saranya Hayward for personalized referrals.
Hearing Clinic
Schedule a free appointment to see Susanne Powers, licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist. Services provided include a visual inspection of both ears, hearing screening, hearing aid maintenance and check-up, and consultation for anything involving hearing.
Foot Care Clinics
Certified podiatry nurses offer a general assessment of your feet and will trim, file, clean, reduce thickening of nails, and smooth corns and calluses.

Legal Assistance
Schedule a free half hour consultation with an attorney who specializes in Elder Law, or with South Coastal Counties Legal Services.
SHINE (Medicare) Counseling
SHINE provides free health insurance information and counseling to all MA residents with Medicare. Learn more about your plan options and receive help signing up for a more cost-effective plan.
Notary Public
Free notary public services for those age 60+. Available by appointment.
Veteran's Assistance
A Veterans Service Officer is available at the Harwich office on a part-time basis to assist Veterans and surviving spouses with claims, VA healthcare, VA pensions, MGL Chapter 115 low income benefits, and more. Call 508-778-8740 (Hyannis) or 508-430-7510 (Harwich) to schedule an appointment or learn the office’s current drop-in hours.
Real Estate Tax Exemptions
Qualified residents may be eligible to lower their tax bill via Town of Harwich exemption programs. Income and asset limits apply. Contact the Assessor’s office for a list of available exemptions (508-430-7503) or contact Director Julie Groom for assistance with your application (508-430-7550 ext 4).
Sight Loss Services Support Group
Peer meetings for those with vision loss and blindness, meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. Speakers and experts give presentations, and the group discusses coping techniques and medical advances. Free transportation available. RSVP to Sight Loss Services at 508-394-3904.
Durable Medical Equipment Loans
Durable medical equipment is available for loan to Harwich residents (canes, walkers, commodes, shower seats, wheelchairs, etc). Loans to non-Harwich residents are limited to items we have in abundance and are subject to a $25 deposit.
Donations & Returns: Please only donate or return equipment that is clean and in good condition (e.g., no rust). Packages of urinary incontinence supplies must be unopened.
Note that our ability to accept donations and returns is dependent upon our storage space. There may be periods when we have to decline donations and returns. Further, we cannot accept any equipment that requires power, nor non-durable medical supplies (e.g., bandages, medications) other than un-opened incontinence products.
You can drop in Monday-Friday 9AM-3PM, though we recommend calling ahead.

The Harwich COA offers many legal, financial, medical, recreational and other services and/or activities by volunteers or nominal cost practitioners. Older adults participating in these services do so with the understanding that the Harwich COA, the Town of Harwich, or its employees do not assume any legal or other responsibility for any advice or services rendered by such volunteers or practitioners.
